Energy Conservation Notice

DUE TO EXTREMELY HOT TEMPERATURES EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT WEEK, ERCOT HAS ISSUED A WEATHER WATCH

ERCOT, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, has issued a Weather Watch for our electrical grid, in effect June 15 -21. This is the first phase of warning to inform the public on grid condition levels and encourage energy conservation.

What Can You Do?

Texas State University can reduce and conserve electricity across campus during these peak high temperatures from June 15-21.

  • Unplug unneeded or rarely used electrical devices such as extra computers in your office, printers, coffee makers, etc.
  • Turn off lights and other electronics when they are not in use.
  • The more we can reduce our electrical consumption, the less likely a peak or rolling outage will occur.

What is Weather Watch?

ERCOT launched TXANS, a tool to provide greater transparency on grid operations; to raise awareness earlier of future possible periods of higher demand and tighter grid conditions.

Electric Reliability Council of Texas—ERCOT

ERCOT, is the entity that operates the state’s electric grid and manages 75% of the deregulated electricity market in Texas. Grid conditions are normal and expected to meet demand when an ERCOT Weather Watch is issued. An ERCOT Weather Watch is essentially a look ahead at forecasted conditions (e.g., colder/warmer weather) where potential demand on the grid could be higher. Supply remains sufficient, but potential for tighter conditions is possible.
